In Russia, first month smartphone sales Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 increased 2.5 times compared to last year’s sales of Flip 4 and Fold 4 models in the retail network.
“About 60% of sales came from the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and 40% from the Z Fold 5 model. The most requested models were in the 512GB configuration,” said Andrey Gubanov, CEO of MTS retail network.
M.Video-Eldorado also pointed out that demand is increasing: pre-orders for new products in 2023 increased by 10% compared to the results of Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4.
“In the new line of Samsung Galaxy smartphones with flexible screens, Flip 5 models are more popular in our networks, accounting for 55% of orders, while the Fold 5 is purchased by about 45% of customers. The retailer said the distribution of demand for fourth-generation devices is about 60 percent to 40 percent.
Samsung introduced the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 smartphones on July 26. The novelties went on sale on the MTS network on July 29, almost two weeks before the official global release. The remaining Russian retailers began accepting pre-orders for the devices from July 26.
Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, believes that overall sales of new Galaxy smartphones with flexible displays in Russia have not increased. According to him, the increase in demand recorded by retailers is due to the decrease in sales points of Samsung smartphones in Russia.
“Customers of the closed stores moved to the rest, so there was growth. “The difference between M.Video and MTS is so great that those who wanted to buy went to MTS and bought and did not wait for pre-order delivery on M.Video.”
Murtazin believes that with the strengthening of the ruble, the total sales of new foldable Samsung smartphones in Russia will remain at the level of 140,000 devices by the end of 2022. In a pessimistic scenario, the total sales of Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 will decrease by 20% compared to last year’s models.
