In Russia, they plan to create national CDN servers (Content Delivery Network) to speed up downloading content over the Internet for residents of the country. This was expressed by the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Information Policy Committee, a member of United Russia Anton Gorelkin. TASS.
CDN servers (Content Delivery Network) – a network of servers placed in networks and traffic exchange points of large Internet providers to accelerate the loading of website and application content.
“In connection with the sanctions, the technical support processes for server equipment of Western companies have been stopped. Therefore, there is a favorable environment for Russian companies,” he said.
According to the MP, the national CDN service “should not be another entity built for budget money.” “Russian players in this market have the capacity to compete with Google. We agreed that the model on which this interaction will be built will be created by the Ministry of Digital Development,” added Gorelkin.
In September 2022, US companies Microsoft and Netflix closed Own CDN servers from Moscow traffic exchange point MSK-IX. Earlier, in June last year, in Russia disabled Google Global Cache platform designed to speed up content loading.
