SpaceX chairman Elon Musk said that the correspondence published online between him and Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates was genuine and that they were discussing the suspension of Tesla shares. This has been reported insider businessman.
The first image shows Gates’ text confirming the day and time of the meeting. “Great,” Musk replies. Another screenshot shows a message believed to be from Gates saying “just landed”, with Musk replying “cool”.
In the third, Musk was the first to initiate the conversation and asked Gates: “Do you still have open positions (short; the goal is to profit by reducing the value of the company’s securities. – approx ed.) half a billion Tesla versus a dollar?”
“Unfortunately, I didn’t,” Gates replied, looking at the screenshots. The Microsoft founder also added that he “wanted to discuss philanthropic opportunities.”
To this proposal, Musk said, “Sorry, but I can’t take your climate change help seriously when you have a large open position against Tesla. Against a company that is doing everything possible to solve the problem of climate change.”
The source of the leaked messages is unknown, but judging by the color of the messages in the screenshots, they were taken from Musk’s phone. The businessman assures that he does not publish the correspondence.
