Sony lowered its sales forecast for its new device due to low demand 16:00

The company has changed its sales forecasts for the new PlayStation VR2 headset in 2023 due to “disappointing pre-order volumes”. About informs Bloomberg.

Sony originally wanted to sell 2 million VR headsets in the first quarter of 2023, but now the bar has been lowered to 1 million. The company softened its ambitions after receiving a report from retailers about pre-orders of the new VR headset starting in November 2022.

Sony has also allegedly notified its partners of a possible reduction in the volume of ordered components required for the production of PS VR2. Allegedly, in fiscal year 2023 (runs from April 1 to March 31 – ed.), Sony hopes to sell only 1.5 million helmets.

Bloomberg sees Sony’s behavior as an indication that the VR market will not expand in the near future. Analysts interviewed by journalists think the high cost of VR headsets is one of the main reasons.

PlayStation VR2 will be released on February 22, 2023. In Europe, the novelty will cost 649 € (about 50 thousand rubles).
