Technology blogger Iskander Sousa and computer scientist Paulo Gomes discovered during their own research that some Chinese crypto miners started painting their graphics cards before selling them. About informs videocardz portal.
Souza and Gomes reviewed several video cards that vendors on Chinese websites had pretended to be new. Experts found that the video cards examined had painted chips to hide the yellow tone that occurs in used devices.
The yellow tint on the chip is stated to be due to miners resoldering components to newer boards or overheating from prolonged use. In addition, some miners also apply markings to make the chips look like the original.
Experts recommend refraining from buying video cards if yellow tints are found on them, because when using them various problems can arise, and the memory in such accelerators quickly deteriorates.
