The Administrative Council of the International Volleyball Federation FIVB has decided to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian teams from international competitions. The decision remains in effect as communicated by the FIVB press office.

Earlier actions by the FIVB included removing Russia and Belarus from the world rankings while they were not taking part in events under the federation’s umbrella.

In late February 2022 the International Olympic Committee issued a directive to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes be barred from participating in any competitions.

As a consequence, a number of major events, including the World Volleyball Championship, were relocated from Russia to other host countries such as Poland.

There are statements attributed to Alexander Yaremenko, former Secretary General of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation, asserting that the FIVB’s stance contributed to the relocation of the 2022 World Cup to Poland. These remarks appeared in reports linked to the federation, reflecting ongoing discussions about venue decisions and participant eligibility. [FIVB press office attribution]
