El Rojo faces a compact week with a trip to Guapo on the horizon, while Stillitano’s project looks precarious after a weak start to the season.
The optimism that accompanied the start of 2023 faded quickly for Independiente, despite reinforcements and the belief that debts from the previous administration would begin to be paid. The team reaffirmed hope with a victorious debut in Córdoba, but after six matches in the league, that win remains their only one and leaves Stillitano’s cycle hanging by a thread following the 2-2 draw with Instituto in Avellaneda.
For this reason, many observers anticipate a possible departure of the coach if the next result does not improve: on Friday, at 5 pm, the team will visit Barracas Central in the “Chiqui” Tapia stadium, where they have won their last two encounters.
THE CALLED INDEPENDENT
The head coach decided to seal the doors of the Villa Domínico facilities in the days leading up to the game against Guapo, working quietly to sharpen the image that had shown moments of promise against Gloria but then faded, ending in a draw and a near loss at various points.
The good news is that Joaquín Laso completed his suspension from the match against Banfield. Regarding players who faced issues, all are part of the concentrated list: Iván Marcone, Kevin López and Baltazar Barcia, the first due to groin pain and the other two because of physical discomfort, yet they remain close to being available for selection.
THE TRAINING OF INDEPENDENT
Understandably, the need for adjustments turned the Reds’ starting eleven into a puzzle. Cauteruccio remained the main goalscorer but the attack appeared static while the defense and midfield were unsettled. The 4-2-3-1 formation didn’t yield decisive results, and against a side that typically cedes initiative, Stillitano faces the task of finding a way to hurt the opponent.
For this reason, there is talk of returning to a 4-4-2 setup and several changes in the lineup: in defense, Joaquín Laso returns to central defense and Báez reclaims a starting spot on the right-back position instead of Ostachuk; in midfield, Sergio Ortiz, Agustín Mulet and Cuqui Márquez are tipped to enter, while Vallejo will operate on the right and Caute will partner with Matías Giménez in attack.
The possible lineup? Rodrigo Rey; Cristian Baez, Sergio Barreto, Joaquín Laso, Ayrton Costa; Nicolás Vallejo, Sergio Ortíz, Agustín Mulet, Rodrigo Márquez; Matias Gimenez and Martin Cauteruccio.
