Neuralink has successfully implanted a third implant in the human brain and announced it during a recent presentation in Las Vegas. All three patients with Neuralink chips show good results and the company plans to continue its research and increase the number of implants to 20-30 by 2025.
The new patient is part of an ambitious program in which Neuralink is actively developing brain implants for people with spinal cord injuries. The chips can be used to control devices directly using brain impulses. The second implantation took place in August 2024 and according to Musk, the device with 400 electrodes works successfully.
The first patient, Noland Arbaugh, who is paralyzed from the shoulders down, is already actively using the implant to operate a computer and even play video games, such as Counter-Strike 2. Musk is confident that in ten years millions of people will be able to use brain implants, which will open new horizons for technology and medicine.
The company is also developing a new device, Blindsight, that can restore vision to people who have lost it since birth. It will initially provide limited vision capabilities, but promises to expand its sensing range in the future, including ultraviolet and infrared vision.
