AMD has announced three new Ryzen Z2 series APUs designed for portable gaming devices. These chips provide desktop-class performance and enhance the gaming experience on portable devices.

The series includes three models:

  • Ryzen Z2 Extreme is a flagship processor with 8 cores based on Zen 5 architecture and 16 RDNA 3.5 units. This is the maximum configuration for this chip family.
  • Ryzen Z2 – 8 cores based on Zen 4 architecture and 12 RDNA 3 units, similar to Ryzen 7 8840U, but without NPU support.
  • The Ryzen Z2 Go is a budget chip with 4 Zen 3+ cores and 12 RDNA 2 units. It will be exclusive to the Lenovo Legion Go S console, designed for gamers looking for an affordable alternative.

Of particular note was the news that Valve has confirmed the use of Ryzen Z2 in new Steam Deck models. Despite this, the company has not yet revealed which of the three chips will be used in the future device. The presentation of the new consoles will probably take place in the coming weeks.
