In the derby played against Lokomotiv in the 16th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL), Moscow Spartak made better use of the goal opportunities. This opinion was expressed by Dmitry Bulykin, former striker of the red-green and the Russian national team, in his comment to socialbites.ca.
“The teams played magnificently, showed offensive football, competed and scored goals. Spartak did better. Of course, when you are ahead 3:0, it is very difficult for the other team to catch up with you. And if they try to compare, very good opportunities for counter-attacks will start to emerge, and we saw that,” said Bulykin.
The match, which took place at the Lukoil Arena stadium, ended with a score of 5:2. Costa Rican Manfred Ugalde scored three goals in the 10th, 21st and 34th minutes of the first half. After the break, Lokomotiv minimized the difference with the efforts of Sergei Pinyaev in the 55th minute and Zherzino Nyamsi in the 63rd minute.
While Ugalde scored the first goal in the RPL in the last 30 years for Spartak in the 73rd minute, Argentinian Ezequiel Barco scored the fifth goal in the 80th minute. Thanks to this victory, Spartak collected 31 points and rose to fourth place in the RPL standings, three points behind third-placed Lokomotiv. The red-whites left the leader Zenit with a difference of 8 points.
Former coach of Spartak Stankovic statedDefender Babich was not quite ready for Lokomotiv.
