Serbian Novak, the 24-time champion of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournaments, has chosen his new coach. The world’s first racket will be Olympic champion Briton Andy Murray. Tennis players announced this on their social networks.
“We have had some of the most epic battles in our sport. We’ve been called game changers, risk takers, history makers. It’s time for one of my toughest competitors to step into my corner. Welcome aboard coach Andy Murray,” Djokovic said.
At the end of 2024, 37-year-old Djokovic ranked seventh in the ATP rankings. His peer Murray is the only tennis player to win the Olympics twice. He also has 46 ATP tournaments to his name. After the Paris Games, Murray retired.
On March 6, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced its decision to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to compete in neutral status at the Olympic Games in France. Russians and Belarusians will be able to compete in the 2024 Olympics if they comply with the neutral athlete principles previously formulated by the IOC.
Previously Djokovic hit Rafael Nadal in his last match.
