Moscow “Spartak” won a strong victory over “Vityaz” near Moscow in the regular championship match of the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
The match played at the Megasport Arena stadium ended with overtime with the home team leading 5:4 (0:1, 0:2, 4:1, 1:0).
Vityaz hockey players opened the scoring in the 4th minute – Canadian defender Jeremy Roy scored the goal. In the second period, the guest team scored two more goals: 21-year-old striker Stanislav Yarovoy scored double points in the 23rd and 38th minutes. At the beginning of the third period, Spartak pulled a goal back in the 49th minute through the efforts of Andrei Loktionov, but they conceded again 40 seconds later: Ivan Chekhovich scored. Three goals were scored in extra time: First, Pavel Poryadin scored in the 57th minute, then 19-year-old Georgy Ovchinnikov scored in the 58th minute, and Alexander Belyaev scored 5 seconds before the final siren. In the 5th minute of extra time, Ivan Morozov brought the victory to Spartak.
Spartak is in second place in the KHL Western Conference standings, collecting 43 points after 29 matches. The difference with the leader Lokomotiv is nine points. Vityaz is in ninth place with 29 points from 30 matches.
The current champion of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) is Metallurg Magnitogorsk. In the final, they won a crushing victory over Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the Gagarin Cup, the KHL play-off final. Metallurg won four matches in a row and closed the final series with a score of 4-0.
