CSKA Moscow captain and goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev explained why he refuses to communicate with the press immediately after matches. His words guide the way Sports24.

He admitted that one of the reasons was the provocation of journalists.

“A lot of people think it’s because I see myself as some kind of star. But I am an ordinary, open-minded man; I’m just not interested in this format of journalism. You come out of the locker room and they shove a phone in your face, like a monkey in the zoo. “Sometimes they make incomprehensible provocations to you, you don’t even know who to answer to,” he said.

With CSKA, Akinfeev became the Russian champion six times, won the national cup seven times and won the UEFA Cup in the 2004/05 season. As a member of the Russian national team, he won a bronze medal at the 2008 European Championships held in Austria and Switzerland. In 2018, Akinfeev reached the 1/4 finals of the home world championship with the Russian national team.

At the end of the 2023/24 season, Akinfeev re-signed a contract with the team. The current agreement is for two years. After 15 weeks in the Russian Premier League, the army club is in sixth place, 27 points and 10 points behind the leader Krasnodar.
