Russian boxer Artur Beterbiev, the absolute world light heavyweight champion, said he was forced to perform under the Canadian flag. His words guide the way TASS.

“I always felt like a Russian. I have played for Russia since I was young and continue to play for my country. We decided to become Canadian citizens, otherwise my title would be taken away. This is necessary to continue boxing,” said Beterbiev.

On the night of October 13, Beterbiev defeated his compatriot Dmitry Bivol and became the absolute world light heavyweight champion. The fight lasted 12 rounds and ended with the score on the judges’ cards – 114:114, 115:113, 116:112. For Bivol, this defeat was the first in his professional career.

Beterbiev became the first undisputed light heavyweight champion since 2003. He did not lose a single fight in the professional ring. The boxer has 21 victories.

On June 2, Bivol won a convincing victory over Malik Zinad at boxing night in Saudi Arabia. Before the fight with Beterbiev, Bivol won 23 fights.

Formerly in the State Duma appreciated Beterbiev’s demonstrations under the Canadian flag.
