On the Chinese platform Bilibili, a blogger under the pseudonym DIY-APE demonstrated a prototype motherboard from Colorful, based on the Intel Z890 chipset. What is special about the board is that the video card is supplied with power without cables. In the photo presented you can see a connector similar to the one used in ASUS GCHPWR solutions.
Connectors for the processor, fans, SATA drives and USB ports are located on the back of the device, which allows you to greatly simplify the internal layout of the case. On the front of the board there are only PCIe 5.0 connectors and slots for DDR5 RAM, as well as space for an SSD and a Wi-Fi module. An additional connector next to the main PCIe 5.0 x16 is responsible for supplying power to the video card.
According to assumptions, this system could be based on the HPCE server standard, which was previously used in ASUS products. This opens the possibility for other video card and motherboard manufacturers to also apply this solution. However, the images do not show the connector responsible for supplying energy to the GCHPWR, which leaves open the question of the mechanism for implementing this system.
Thus, the Colorful motherboard with a new type of graphics card power supply will be an interesting development for users who want to minimize the use of cables and improve the layout of components in their PC systems.
