In the near future, the capacity of hard drives will increase significantly. According to the IEEE International Roadmap for Mass Storage Devices and Systems, 60 TB hard drives will hit the market within a few years.
Thermal magnetic recording technology such as Seagate’s HAMR will significantly accelerate the growth of hard drive capacity. According to the International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), production of hard drives with a record capacity of 60 TB will begin in 2028. Moreover, there will be a sharp jump in just four years. Experts predict that 40 TB hard drives will appear as early as 2025, and in a few years this value will reach 100 TB.
In this case, hard drives will work as before, but thanks to the increase in density, writing and reading data will be significantly faster. Furthermore, IEEE predicts that storage sales will increase from 166 million to 208 million by 2028.
It was previously announced that laptops in Russia will become more expensive again – all as a result of rising component prices.
