Lokomotiv’s new player Cesar Montes explained why he chose to transfer to the Russian club. His words are a guide “Sports Express”.
“Initially I had options to go back to Mexico but I wanted to stay in European football. So when Lokomotiv approached me I thought it would be great. It’s a big project,” Montes said.
Lokomotiv Moscow defeated Khimki near Moscow with a score of 5:1 in the fourth round of the Russian Cup group stage. There was no goal in the first half. The second half was explosive: Lokomotiv scored five goals. Forward Timur Suleymanov scored in the 48th and 70th (penalty) minutes, and midfielder Sergei Pinyaev scored a double in the 62nd and 64th minutes. Another goal came from the team’s new player, Mexican defender Cesar Montes, in the 53rd minute. At the end of the match, Khimki managed to pull a goal back. Forward Zelimkhan Bakaev did it in the 90th minute.
After four rounds, Lokomotiv is in first place in Group B of the Russian Cup with 12 points out of 12. Khimki is in third place with 3 points.
In the fifth round of the Russian Cup group stage, Lokomotiv will face Orenburg at home. The meeting will take place on October 1 at the RZD Arena stadium. The kick-off will be at 18:30 Moscow time. “Khimki” will play at home with “Rostov” – this match will take place on October 2 and will start at 16:15 Moscow time.
The current winner of the tournament is Zenit. In the last draw they defeated Baltika Kaliningrad in the superfinal with a score of 2:1.
