Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nasr Football Club has announced the dismissal of Portuguese specialist Luis Castro from his position as head coach, as reported on the team’s official account on the X social network (formerly Twitter).
“Everyone in the team would like to thank Luis and his coaching staff for their work over the last 14 months. We wish you the best of luck in the future,” the club said in a statement.
Castro, 63, has been at the helm of Nasr since July 2023. During that time, the club has played 54 matches in all competitions, winning 36, drawing nine and losing nine.
In the 2024/2025 season of the Saudi Arabian Championship, the club is in seventh place with five points after three matches.
Castro has also worked for Ukraine’s Shakhtar, Qatar’s Al-Duhail and Brazil’s Botafogo in the past five years, as well as Al-Nasr.
On January 2, 2023, Ronaldo became a player for Al-Nasr from Saudi Arabia, under a contract that sees him receive €200 million per year. Additional bonuses were reportedly given to the Portuguese and his family. The Portuguese striker joined the club from Saudi Arabia after terminating his contract with Manchester United.
The Portuguese previously played for Real Madrid for nine years and Juventus in Turin for three years. He also played for Sporting in Portugal. On September 4, it was learned that Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were not on the list of candidates for the Ballon d’Or.
