Alpine pilot Pierre Gasly was disqualified after the results of his participation in the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The official website reports this “Formula 1”.
Despite setting the 13th fastest time in the race, he will start from the back of the grid.
“The technical delegate reported that Gasly’s car exceeded the permitted fuel consumption limit of 100 kg/h during the last fastest lap of the second qualifying session,” the statement said.
Qualifying victory went to Italian Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
The racer, who has citizenship of the Kingdom of Monaco, showed a result of 1:41.365. McLaren driver Oscar Piastri (+0.321) came in second, while Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz (+0.440) came in third.
McLaren co-driver Lando Norris made a mistake in the first part of qualifying, falling short of second place and remaining in 17th place (+2.244).
The current Formula 1 champion is Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. He qualified for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in sixth place (+0.658). The driver is a three-time Formula 1 world champion (2021, 2022 and 2023). He holds the record for most wins in a single season and most consecutive Formula 1 Grands Prix wins.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix race in Azerbaijan will start on September 15 at 14:00 Moscow time.
