The Appeals Chamber of the International Chess Federation Ethics Commission (FIDE) has overturned the organization’s previous decision to deprive the Russian Chess Federation (RFC) of its membership, satisfying the Russian organization’s appeal. This is stated in the decision provided to TASS.
On June 7, FCR was deprived of its FIDE membership for two years due to the addition of new regions. After the appeal was approved, the expulsion decision was replaced by a fine of 45 thousand euros.
The Chamber also overturned the decision to reprimand FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich for his participation on the FCR board of trustees.
In February 2022, FIDE allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions with neutral status; at the same time, the Russian and Belarusian national teams are prohibited from participating in tournaments under the auspices of FIDE, and official chess competitions are not held in these countries.
Previously, the ethics commission found to be unfounded Accusations against FIDE president Dvorkovich.
