According to the TomTom Traffic Index, in 2020 Moscow was the city with the busiest roads in the world. There are three more Russian cities in the top 20 – Novosibirsk (9th place), St. Petersburg (12th) and Samara (20th). And every year, due to the increase in the number of cars, the situation on country roads worsens. Especially in the capital, the problem of traffic congestion is likely to turn into a disaster in the near future unless radical measures are taken.

According to Dmitry Davydov, even the enormous efforts of the Moscow Government on the constant modernization of the capital’s transport system could not significantly affect the traffic. Therefore, the author of the project proposes to turn to foreign experience.

In the early 2000s, London was one of the leaders in traffic jams in the world. Raising parking prices and improving traffic patterns did not solve the problem. However, in 2003, the city quickly recovered from congestion when the mayor’s office introduced a paid entrance to the center from 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays. The investment in the technology paid off within two years, and since then, millions of dollars in traffic collection revenue have been invested in improving the city’s transportation infrastructure. Today, London ranks 49th on the TomTom Traffic Index. The basic cost of travel to the central districts of the city from 7 am to 10 pm is 15 pounds per day (about 1 thousand rubles).

Dmitry Davydov updated the proposals in his project “20 ideas for the development of Russia”. He sent his idea to reduce traffic jams in the capital Moscow and got a response.
