CSKA striker Fedor Chalov talked about his reaction to the arrival of former coach of Swiss Basel Guillermo Abascal to Spartak Moscow.
“I was very surprised when Spartak appointed Abaskal. When it was announced, I had just come from training and read it. Everyone started texting me and asking what I could say about him. What can I say? I stopped playing with him in Basel. But I can not say anything bad: he is tactically trained, he understands commands very well. Let’s see how it will manifest itself in “Spartacus”, – quotes from Chalov “Sport-Express”.
Abascal became Spartak’s head coach at the end of the season, replacing Paolo Vanoli. The 33-year-old Spaniard trained with Swiss Basel, where he finished second in the local Super League last season. Abascal has also worked for Seville, Swiss Chiasso and Lugano, Italian Ascoli and Greek Volos.
He spent his first match as the mentor of the red-whites on 9 July, losing to Zenit (0:4) in the battle of the Russian Super Cup.
