Former Russian national team player Andrei Arshavin called Zenit St. Petersburg the favorites in the sixth round match against Moscow Spartak in the Russian Premier League (RPL). The former football player was quoted as saying “Match TV”.
“Despite Spartak’s good performance, Zenit is of course the favorite. If we take the first 11 places, Zenit is the strongest team in the Russian championship. However, the bench in the class is insufficient. “Zenit needs to strengthen this position,” Arshavin said.
In the 5th round, Spartak defeated Fakel 3-0 at home, while Zenit drew 1-1 with Khimki away. In this match, blue-white-navy attacking midfielder Maxim Glushenkov was injured – the ball hit his hand and the player was later diagnosed with a fracture. He underwent surgery and will be out indefinitely; he will miss the match against Spartak. Also, Brazilian Zenit midfielder Wendel will not be able to play against Muscovites due to injury.
Zenit leads the RPL standings with 13 points from five rounds, while Spartak is three points behind in fourth place. The head-to-head clash between these teams will take place in St. Petersburg on Saturday, August 24, starting at 17:30 Moscow time.
