Meralco Bolts basketball player Chris Banchero made the first four-point shot in sports history.
This happened during a game in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), which was the first professional league to implement a four-point line that is more than eight meters from the rim.
The PBA first tried this innovation at the 2023 All-Star Game, becoming the first major professional 5×5 basketball association to include four-point field goals in its regulations.
The Meralco Bolts defeated the Magnolia Hotshots 99-94.
It is worth noting that after Banchero, Bolts’ Jolo Mendoza made another four-point attempt. Chris Newsome was the first to attempt a shot from the four-point area, but missed.
The PBA was founded in 1975. It was the first professional league in Asia. This tournament is currently the second oldest tournament held on the planet. The oldest league is the National Basketball Association (NBA), founded in 1946.
LeBron James was previously known MVP of the basketball tournament At the Olympic Games.
