President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFKhG) Irina Viner praised Barnaul native Daria Varfolomeeva, who won first place with the German team in group exercises at the Paris Olympics, and Russian coach Anastasia Bliznyuk, who leads Rhythmic Gymnastics under her leadership. “In these competitions, Russia proved that it is ahead of the rest. Where Russia has a hand, there was, will be and will be victory. I congratulate Nastya on her victory,” said Viner, also drawing attention to Varfolomeev’s success.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a call to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify. The medals of Russians and Belarusians are not taken into account in the medal standings.
