The World Boxing organization has backed Algerian boxer Iman Khelif’s performance at the 2024 Olympics. Their words are a guide TASS.
“He competed with us, we have nothing against it,” the organization said.
Algeria’s Iman Khelif failed a gender test at the 2023 World Championships in India. Taiwan’s Lin Yuting also failed a gender test at that championship, but the IOC approved their participation in the Games.
On August 1, Italian boxer Angela Carini, competing in the up to 66 kg category at the Olympic Games, gave up in the 47th second of her fight with Khelif.
The Olympic Games began on July 26, with competitions running through August 11. The opening ceremony took place on the Seine River. Russian athletes, who compete in the Summer Olympics as neutrals, did not attend the ceremony.
Following the start of Russia’s SVO in Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes and recommended that Federations not allow athletes from these countries to participate in international competitions. In December 2023, the IOC allowed athletes from Russia to participate in the 2024 Olympics, but only with neutral status and subject to a number of necessary conditions.
Former UFC fighter made fun of the situation with boxer Khelif.
