Court of Arbitration for Sports Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD) approvedIraqi judoka Sajjad Ghanim Sehen and Nigerian boxer Cynthia Temitayo Ogunsemilore were disqualified for violating anti-doping rules.
On July 23, a judoka’s doping test showed the presence of banned steroids in his body. On July 27, a Nigerian athlete tested positive and was found to have the substance furosemide. On July 28, CAS ADD disqualified both participants.
The Olympic Games began on July 26, with competitions lasting until August 11. The opening ceremony took place on the Seine River on the 26th. Russian athletes, who are participating in the Summer Olympics as neutrals, did not attend the ceremony.
Having suspended Russia and Belarus in February 2022 due to the start of the SVO at the end of 2023, the International Olympic Committee decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games. To participate, they had to fulfill a number of conditions and qualify.
