Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev advanced to the third round of the ATP-250 series tournament in Umag, Croatia.
In the second round, the Russian athlete defeated Argentine representative Hugo Carabella. The match, which lasted 1 hour and 47 minutes, ended in two sets of 6:4 and 7:5. During this time, Rublev held one serve and made two double faults, converting four of seven break points.
For the next round, the Russian representative will face the winner of the match between Fabian Marozsand (Hungary) and Thiago Monteiro (Brazil).
Rublev is ranked ninth in the updated rankings of the Association of Tennis Professionals.
On March 6, the International Tennis Federation announced that it had decided to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to compete in the Olympic Games in France with neutral status. The Russians and Belarusians will be eligible to compete in the 2024 Olympics if they adhere to the principles of neutral athletes previously formulated by the International Olympic Committee. Rublev refused to go to the Olympic Games.
