The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will publish the competitions of the Games to be held in Paris for residents of Russia on its official website. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the organization.
The rights to broadcast the Olympics in Russia belong to Telesport Group. The company’s president, Petr Makarenko, is currently under arrest as a defendant in a criminal case related to fraud.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued a call to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
In response to the IOC sanctions, the Friendship Games were announced in Russia in September 2024. The postponement of the Games was announced in early June by the general director of the competition’s organizing committee, Alexey Sorokin, who left his post a month later. On Tuesday, July 16, the President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation, Maxim Agapitov, said he had official information: the Friendship Games have been postponed to 2025.
