Russian State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova says she is unlikely to support Russian tennis players at the Paris Olympics “Soviet sport”.

“At Wimbledon I was already supporting our tennis players, but at the Olympics I don’t know. For me the country factor plays a very strong role. I want to worry about Lena Vesnina. I am friends with her,” Zhurova said.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called on international sports federations to recommend that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to participate with neutral status.
