Ronaldo breaks European record in penalties 09:51

Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo broke the European record for converting penalties in a post-match series.

On July 5, Portugal lost to France in the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championship. The match took place at the Volksparkstadion stadium in Hamburg. The main time of the match ended 0:0; the players did not score in extra time either. The result of the match was determined in the penalty shoot-out, where the French were stronger: 5:3.

Ronaldo scored his attempts in the penalty shootout (1/8 finals against France and Slovenia), thus setting a tournament record by scoring a total of four goals from the penalty spot in the post-match series.

France have advanced to the semi-finals of the Euros, where they will face Spain, who eliminated host nation Germany in the quarter-finals.

The 2024 European Championship will take place on pitches in Germany from June 14 to July 14. The current European champion is the Italian team, who completed their participation in the tournament, losing to Switzerland in the 1/8 finals of the tournament.
