World champion in beach football as part of the Russian national team, Boris Nikonorov, commented on the appointment of the Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Mikhail Degtyarev to the post of Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation. In a conversation with socialbites.ca, Nikonorov wished Degtyarev good luck and emphasized that he expects the department led by the new head to work on the development of mass sports.
“First of all, I wish him success, strength and patience in his new position. Of course, I have high expectations. I really want his work to be as productive as possible during his term of office and for sports in our country to grow exponentially.
I think that now is the time to develop domestic Russian sports – first of all, children’s and youth sports and mass sports. The construction and modernization of existing infrastructure facilities is mandatory. Again, accessibility is of great importance: that all citizens, regardless of age and gender, have equal opportunities to visit sports facilities. And of course, in any case, it is necessary to work to return our sport and our athletes to the international arena,” Nikonorov said.
On the evening of May 11, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin presented the structure of the country’s new government to the lower house of parliament for consideration. On May 12, it was reported that Mikhail Degtyarev had arrived in Moscow to begin preparations to join the new government. From 2016 to 2020, the official chaired the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs. Degtyarev is a master of fencing, winner of awards at all-Russian and international competitions.
