Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, criticized the foreign player limitation currently in force in Russian football “Sports Express”.

“Football teams are allowed to have 8 foreign players on the field. And only three of them play in the national team. We must do everything to get our guys on the field,” said Volodin.

There can now be a maximum of 13 foreigners in the RPL season application. A maximum of eight foreign players can enter the field.

In the spring of 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations.

The Russians missed the 2022 World Cup play-offs and will also miss the upcoming European Championship.
