Evgeny Melezhikov, former general manager of Spartak Moscow, has been appointed executive director of the Russian Premier League (RPL). This has been reported official website of the organization.
“Evgeniy Vladimirovich Melezhikov has been appointed general manager of the league effective today. In the statement, it was stated that Sergei Vladimirovich Cheban, who previously served as executive director, was offered an advisor position.
Melezhikov worked as security director at Spartak from 2015 to 2019 and returned to this position in September 2020. He served as the team’s CEO from 2021 to 2023. At the end of the 2022/23 season, Spartak won the bronze medal and was ranked only by Zenit St. Petersburg. Petersburg and CSKA lost to Moscow. In addition, the team that won the Russian Cup last season was eliminated this year by losing to Akron Tolyatti in the second stage of the Regions Road semi-final.
