Tim Tszyu says he nearly lost his vision in a losing fight

Russian-Australian boxer Tim Tszyu, the son of the former absolute world boxing champion Konstantin Tszyu in the first heavyweight category, talked about what difficulties he experienced in his fight with the US representative Sebastian Fundora. His words guide the way “Championship.com”.

“My eyesight was almost gone, I literally couldn’t see anything and had to rub my eyes constantly. Physically I felt fine but you still struggle with blurred vision, which is not an ideal situation especially with a competitor like Fundora,” Tszyu said.

The fight lasted 12 rounds and ended with the victory of the American boxer by split decision. Tszyu’s WBO world title and the vacant WBC junior middleweight title were at stake.

Tszyu had 25 fights and lost the first fight in his career. Fundora won the 21st fight of his career with one defeat and one draw.

On October 15, 2023, Tszyu defended the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior middleweight title for the first time and also took the title of World Boxing Council (WBC) interim champion from his opponent. The fight lasted all 12 rounds. Tszyu won by unanimous decision.

The WBO belt went to 29-year-old Tszyu without a fight. American Jermell Charlo agreed to fight Mexican Saul Alvarez (losing by unanimous decision) and was stripped of his title at the beginning of the bout because he refused to defend his belt in a fight with Tszyu.
