Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Ishmuratova spoke about the influence of Nazism on the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) position regarding Russians. His words were quoted “Match TV”.
“It finally happened, and Bach said: his actions have political impact. Otherwise, we would often hear that sports are outside of politics. I have always believed that the Olympic Games unite peoples and eliminate differences between peoples: “Oh sport, you are the world!” However, the IOC imposes sanctions on those they deem to be violating the Olympic Charter. The influence of Nazism is obvious,” Ishmuratova said.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
To qualify for the Games, Russian athletes will have to sign updated conditions of participation that include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”, the IOC said. Athletes from Russia and Belarus will not compete in the medal count.
Former Olympic champion statedHe said he was disgusted by the IOC president’s statements.
