International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach talked about the impact of politics on the organization. His words guide the way TASS.
“I have said this many times, but it needs to be repeated clearly: This does not mean that we are apolitical, that we behave as if we live on the island of saints, that we do not recognize the political impact of our actions. “They must have political influence,” Bach said.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
To qualify for the Games, Russian athletes will have to sign updated conditions of participation that include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”, the IOC said. Athletes from Russia and Belarus will not compete in the medal count.
On March 14, Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) president Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that athletes participating in the Olympics would be required to denounce SVO and sign “some other documents” that are contrary to Russian legislation. However, the criterion for condemning SVO was not included.
The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
