In the near future, the Russian Football Union (RFU) will begin negotiations on a new contract with the head coach of the Russian national team, Valery Karpin. The union offers the specialist a two-year contract. This was reported by “Sports Express”.
Karpin, who became head coach of Rostov in July 2021, led the Russian national team. He initially planned to combine studies in the national team and Rostov, but in early August he announced that he decided to focus on the national team, after which he left the club. After his suspension from the Russian national team, he again began to combine the two positions. The expert’s contract will continue until the end of July 2024.
Under his leadership, the national team managed to qualify for the play-offs in the 2022 World Cup, but could not participate due to suspension.
In the spring of 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations.
Since the spring, the national team has only been able to play unofficial matches due to suspension. On March 21, Russians defeated Serbia with a score of 4:0.
