Expert admits IOC will continue to single out Russian athletes

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will most likely continue to follow the path of singling out Russian athletes. This view was expressed in an interview Tsargrad.tv said TV commentator, sports commentator Alexey Osin, discussing the conditions for participation of athletes from the Russian Federation in the Olympic Games in Paris.

“I do not rule out that they will be placed in a separate place in the Olympic Village, isolated in some way. Our state’s position is that we condemn this thing, but we cannot ban every athlete from participating in competitions,” the observer noted.

He added that Russia does not want to repeat the experience of the 80s, when the USA and the USSR boycotted each other’s Olympics.

Theodoros Roussopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rejected The IOC’s decision to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Games in Paris with neutral status.

In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympics with neutral status. It was also noted that they should not support the SVO or have connections with military organizations. Athletes can only compete in individual programs, they are prohibited from participating in team tournaments.

The games will start in July 2024. Russians are prohibited from attending the opening ceremony.
