Japanese figure skater hospitalized after skating at the World Championships

Japanese figure skaters Ryuichi Kihara and Riku Miura could not attend the awards ceremony after the World Championships freestyle pairs program in Montreal due to Kihara’s health problems. The duo’s coach, Bruno Marcotta, spoke about this press service International Skating Union.

“Ryuichi was coughing and dizzy due to low blood sugar. Doctors decided the best option was to put him on a stretcher. They hooked him up to an IV. He feels better now,” Marcotta said.

Kihara and Miura won silver medals at the World Championships. Gold medals went to Canada’s Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. ISU suspended athletes from both countries from competition. The last major tournament for the Russians was the Olympic Games in Beijing in February 2022.
