Uruguay is the current world junior champion. In the 2023 final, the Uruguayans beat Italy 1-0.

On March 21 in Moscow, the Russian national team beat Serbia with a score of 4:0. The goals of the match were scored by Anton Miranchuk, Maxim Osipenko and Alexey Miranchuk, who converted the penalty. In the 88th minute, Arsen Zakharyan sent the fourth ball to the Serbian goal, but the goal was canceled due to Ivan Sergeev being offside. However, already in stoppage time, the author of the scored goal became Sergeev himself.

In the spring of 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations.

UEFA made an attempt to return the Russian youth team to the international arena, but in the autumn of 2023 the Executive Committee of the organization annulled the decision on admission.
