Russian Football Union (RFU) General Secretary Maxim Mitrofanov evaluated the impact of the arrest of Spartak Moscow striker Quincy Promes on the Russian Premier League (RPL). His words lead the way Sports24.

“Promes? This is not a shame for Russian football because this does not apply to Russian football. But this is a reputational blow. It would be right to wait for official court decisions. But this is definitely a negative story, we are not happy about it. This is Spartak’s problem rather than the League’s problem,” Mitrofanov said.

On March 13, Promes was arrested in the UAE in connection with a traffic accident. He fled the scene after colliding with the bus. Before this, he was under house arrest. The Netherlands plans to request his extradition.

On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for cocaine trafficking. The hearing of the case was held on January 24, and the prosecutor’s office requested that Promesa be sentenced to 9 years in prison.
