“It is still not possible to say for sure whether the incident was an accident or suicide. Toxicological tests will be ready within a month. Pending the completion of the investigation, police took Konstantin’s phone and laptop.
I think it was an accident. There are no signs of trouble. Konstantin rented a car for a long time, paid for purchases that had not yet arrived, then booked an apartment elsewhere,” he said.
Koltsov’s death became known on March 19. Salavat’s coach flew to Miami to support Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, who is expected to participate in the Masters tournament.
Koltsov has been working in the technical staff of Salavat Yulaev since 2022. Before that, he worked for Spartak and was also the head coach of Dynamo Molodechno of the Belarusian Extra League.
His playing career included stints in Russia and Belarus, as well as in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected 18th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
