Spartak Moscow football player Quincy Promes may avoid a six-year prison sentence for smuggling nearly one and a half tons of cocaine in the Netherlands, thanks to a possible criminal case in Russia for systematic tax evasion. This was reported by Telegram channel MASH.
According to one source, Promes owed 397 thousand rubles to the Federal Tax Service even before flying to the training camp in the UAE. During this period, the ministry informed him that the debt should be paid, but the football player did not take these notifications into account. Therefore, the tax service can now go to court to recover the required amount. Now Promes will not be able to pay his debt because he is in a UAE prison.
One of the options for releasing Promes from Dubai prison is the initiation of a criminal case in Russia. First, law enforcement will open a criminal case against him, put him on the wanted list, and then seek his extradition from the UAE.
Promes was arrested in the UAE on March 13 at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office, which wanted to request the player’s extradition. He had an accident in Dubai and fled the scene.
