Russian skier Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov came ninth in the classic style 10 km time trial. He lost to the winner of the competition, Ermil Vokuev, by 45.4 seconds.

Thus, Bolshunov interrupted his record winning streak in individual races. He last won the gold medal in skiathlon at the Russian Championships in Malinovka. It was his 23rd win of the season. The race took place on March 17.

Bolshunov won the World Cup twice and won the Tour de Ski. At the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Russian won five medals, including three gold. Like all Russian skiers, he was suspended from participating in the last World Cup races and ended the 2021/22 season early, finishing second in the overall World Cup standings.

In the spring of 2022, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) decided to suspend Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions until the end of the season. This decision was later extended. Russians compete only in local tournaments.

Previously Bolshunov healed From illness using an inflatable bath.
