Lawyer Igor Bushmanov said that the UAE may reject the Netherlands’ request to extradite Spartak Moscow striker Quincy Promes, on the grounds that this decision could lead to negative consequences. His words guide the way RIA News.
“This request may be rejected for any reason, including the fact that granting Promes to the Netherlands, taking into account the UAE’s relations with Russia, could lead to negative political moments for the country itself, since this person represents the interests of the Russian team” – said Bushmanov.
Promes was arrested in the UAE on March 13 at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office, which wanted to request the player’s extradition. Before this, he was under house arrest.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for cocaine trafficking. The hearing of the case was held on January 24, and the prosecutor’s office requested that Promesa be sentenced to 9 years in prison. On 16 February, the Dutchman was placed on the international wanted list. He also has a prison sentence of 1.5 years for stabbing.
