Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, described the words of French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the proposal to establish a ceasefire during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as ridiculous. His explanation guides Sports24.

“Why should we respond to the call of a person who a few weeks ago called for the deployment of troops of a third country to the Northern Military District front? It all seems somehow hypocritical and strange. Why can’t Macron convey this demand to the Ukrainians? This Macron is very strange, his words really contradict each other,” said Zhurova.

The games in Paris start at the end of July.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

To qualify for the Games, Russian athletes will have to sign updated conditions of participation that include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”, the IOC said. Russian athletes who rank well in their own disciplines will be allowed to compete.
