Representatives of the National Olympic Committees of the Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) stated their opposition to the participation of Russian athletes in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This was reported by Inside the Games.

The country’s NOCs have already sent a joint letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) containing relevant content.

“We firmly believe that Russians and Belarusians should not be there under any circumstances,” the objection states.

The Olympic Games will start in Paris on July 26, 2024.

Russian and Belarusian athletes have been suspended from international competitions since March 2022 due to a special military operation on Ukrainian territory. Such a decision was taken in line with the IOC’s recommendations regarding the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians from any international competitions. However, in December 2023, the IOC decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Games with neutral status and in accordance with the specified requirements.

In January 2024, the Latvian Seimas sent a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron with a request that athletes from Russia and Belarus not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Previously at OKR statedThat the Russians would have to condemn the SVO for the sake of the Olympics.
