“If we win against Menorca on Friday, we already have seven dragon balls.” And so, without further ado, my friend Óscar sent me a gif on WhatsApp last Wednesday showing Lucentum’s mascot, Fogui, transforming into a Saiyan warrior. You know, like one of those parents who dresses their kids for the occasion, Óscar dressed his little critter like a character from “Dragon Ball,” instantly taking me back to that childhood of me following the adventures of my brother Miguel. Goku. “Come on, if Lucentum wins the game, I’ll write about it.” I could never have imagined that two days later we would wake up to the news of the death of its creator, Akira Toriyama. This text then becomes a tribute to the Japanese writer and illustrator, to HLA Alicante’s seven consecutive victories and to Fogui’s father’s ability to change destiny. Watch out for Óscar and his cat instincts in these matters.
