The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Executive Committee expressed concerns about the hosting of the Friendship Games in Russia Web site organizations.
WADA is concerned that the health of the athletes will be jeopardized by the event not being held under the protection of the organisation.
“WADA calls on all signatories to be careful and not to legitimize this incident. The Agency cannot guarantee an anti-doping program. “It may or may not happen,” the statement said.
WADA also notes that trust in the anti-doping system in Russia remains low.
The Friendship Games will be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from September 15 to 29.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
To qualify for the Games, Russian athletes will have to sign updated conditions of participation that include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”, the IOC said.
